Dance is Ageless

Sometimes it’s just too tough to dance because work and daily life can be draining. Sometimes we fall into the trap of comparison because others are younger, with more strength and better stamina. However, dance is NEVER about perfection or about being the best! It is alright to move differently; and to move how you want to, when you want to.

It is not unusual meeting individuals in their late twenties to thirties who ask us if it is too late for them to pursue dancing. However, to meet persevering individuals who decide to push against the physical and societal limitations of age is quite rare, just as Belle has uniquely done so over the past 5 years.

Belle, 36, is a full time Research Engineer by day and a regular dancer at night. She has been in the The Legacy Experience dance programme since 2016. Despite having a 9-5 full-time job, she still manages to set aside time to dance almost every night. To Belle, dance is FREEDOM; she can freely express herself in any way she wants it, without restriction.

“Dance to me is freedom… I can do anything that I want.”

Belle, TLE student

As she singularly mustered the courage back then, it was the sheer inner curiosity of wanting to improve herself, the enjoyment of music and movement that overcame all obstacles, age and background.

At Legacy, our background in life and age truly don’t matter!

What matters is the willingness to try, even if learning something new comes with its own set of challenges, knowing that the smile at the end of the day is worth the pursuit. Learning to unlearn certain mental barriers we have imposed upon ourselves not only expands our bodies’ capabilities but also eventually makes us more radiant, youthful and joyful.

Just as Belle became the testimony to our outlook on dance, so can you. The journey of a thousand miles begins today!
